On February 26, twenty two students from Bunkyo University visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to receive a lecture from Counsellor Nonomura.
Counsellor Nonomura first explained his background and how his interest in working as a diplomat increased, and noted the importance of giving adequate time to think about their own future while studying in college.
Under the main theme, “What is the UN?” he explained, with respect to his own experiences, the strengths and weaknesses of the organization, Japan’s contributions to the UN reform, and how the UN requires working styles different from those in Japan.
After the lecture, students raised questions on subjects such as the UN reform, languages spoken and necessary in the UN, Japan’s uniqueness as a country, and also asked for words of advice from the Counsellor on how to proceed with the Model United Nations (MUN).
