Lecture to Kyoto University of Foreign Studies by Counsellor Takahashi
23 February 2015
On February 23, twenty students from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to receive a lecture from Counsellor Takahashi. Counsellor Takahashi explained the system, role and basic bodies of the Mission. With reference to the daily activities of the Security Council, he emphasized the significance of Japan’s Security Council membership and of Security Council reform, including the expansion of its permanent and non-permanent memberships. Counsellor Takahashi also encouraged the students to pursue careers with the UN, since bringing more Japanese contributors to the organization is a prominent goal under Japan’s foreign policy. After the lecture, Counsellor Takahashi answered questions raised by the students about the low number of Japanese staff in the UN as well as Japan’s most prioritized diplomatic issues. |
