10 February 2015
On February 10, ten students from Sapporo Seishin Joshi Graduate School visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to receive a lecture by Minister Noboru Sekiguchi.
Minister Sekiguchi explained the major roles and tasks of the United Nations, including those that need to be accomplished within the 21th century. Upon discussing the importance of the UN, he also pointed out the necessity of bilateral and multilateral international cooperation within the organization.
During his lecture, Minister Sekiguchi discussed the significance of Japan’s contributions to the UN and the role of the Mission of Japan in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and creating the Post-2015 Development Agenda. He emphasized that though some achievements have been made under MDGs, there will be other forthcoming challenges and continuous efforts will be necessary to deal with new issues. Therefore, the member states of the UN have been negotiating to formulate the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
To end the lecture, he gave several pieces of advice to those considering working in the international arena, and answered various questions raised by the students. Each student expressed her gratitude, and together the students presented a song to the Minister. |
