Lecture to Hofstra University Students by Minister Shimizu

        On January 15th, 14 students from Hofstra University visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to receive a lecture from Minister Shimizu.


        Minister Shimizu first introduced his work as a diplomat at the Mission, and then explained the basic facts of Japan, including its history, foreign policy posture, contributions to the international community, and important issues the country faces. Minister stressed Japan’s steadfast policy of actively contributing to the UN activities, citing its budgetary contribution, participation in PKO, assistance for Ebola outbreak, and Prime Minister Abe's recent visit to the Middle East. Minister Shimizu then discussed the need for the reform of the Security Council and other issues that will be discussed as the UN marks the 70th anniversary of its foundation.


        Students showed great enthusiasm throughout the lecture and raised questions regarding such as bilateral and multilateral negotiations and issue of climate change.
