On January 13th, 37 interns at the UN/Missions visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to receive a lecture from Counsellor Nishimaki.
Counsellor Nishimaki first introduced the five divisions of the Mission and the issues and committees each division handles. He explained his daily routine as a Counsellor of the general affairs division, and briefly introduced his diplomatic career. He then gave a general overview of the United Nations, with reference to the quote of Dag Hammarskjöl and three pillars of the UN. He expanded his discussion by raising various topics including Japan’s contribution to the international community and Security Council reform.
Participants listened to the lecture in a motivated, proactive manner and showed their understanding by raising questions on upcoming events such as “70th Anniversary of the UN” and “NPT Review Conference”.
