Lecture to the Yokohama Peace Messengers by Ambassador Okamura and Counsellor Nishimaki

        On October 27th, 4 students representing as the Yokohama Peace Messengers visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the UN to receive a lecture by Ambassador Okamura and Counsellor Nishimaki.


        Ambassador Okamura began by giving a general overview of the UN and pointed out that the significance of the organization is that countries share a common purpose of solving an issue to achieve global peace and stability. Ambassador Okamura also sent words of advice to the students by emphasizing the importance of having a spirit of challenge and an ability to question the status quo.


        The lecture was followed by Counsellor Nishimaki's introduction of the purpose of the UN, along with the function of six main committees of the General Assembly. He explained the major issues that the Mission especially focuses on, by also raising specific efforts of Japan to resolving abduction issues.
After the lecture, students actively participated in the discussion and raised questions on various fields.
