Lecture to JCI Japan Children United Nations Ambassadors by Ambassador Umemoto and Counsellor Nishimaki

23 July 2014

On July 23rd, thirty student ambassadors of JCI Japan Children United Nations visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations.

Ambassador Umemoto gave a welcoming speech and explained the role of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations in the international community. He encouraged the students to make a good use of this opportunity of visiting New York and expressed his hope that they leave with a strong impression of the experience.

Ambassador's speech was followed by Counsellor Nishimaki's brief self-introduction. He then introduced the UN General Assembly and its main committees as well as the major issues discussed today at the UN. He also introduced some of the major international poll results to show that the Japanese culture is well-received in many different countries. Counsellor Nishimaki not only gave a lecture but also asked questions occasionally to interact with the students. After the lecture, two student groups gave presentations on UN MDGs using their handmade posters. Counsellor Nishimaki responded to their presentation by giving feedback and words of advice.
