Lecture to the National Model United Nations Student Participants from Japan by Ambassador Jun Yamazaki

          On 24 March, ten students from Japan participating in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to hear a lecture by Ambassador Jun Yamazaki.

 

          Ambassador Yamazaki explained the principal organs of the United Nations and their role. He also explained Japan’s position on a number of issues that are dealt with at the United Nations. He touched upon Prime Minister Abe’s speech to the General Assembly in September 2013 and what Japan intends to do in the area of empowerment of women. He further explained how the Japanese Mission works. Lastly, he gave advice to the students on what they should keep in mind if they wished to work in international organizations such as the United Nations.

 

          Following the lecture, Ambassador Yamazaki answered questions from students regarding a number of topics, including peacekeeping operations activities.
