Lecture to Nagano High School Students by Counsellor Ryo Fukahori

On March 17, seventy-six students from the Nagano High School visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to receive a lecture by Counsellor Ryo Fukahori.
At the beginning of the lecture, Counsellor explained the historical background of how the United Nations replaced the League of Nations and the collective security system, mainly the UN Security Council. He gave some unique features of the UN including its definition of justice, the power that the UNSC holds, and the difference between the General Assembly and the UNSC in decision-making process. Moreover, he explained the contribution of Japan to the UN and to the reform of the UNSC, and concluded his lecture by giving advice to students as to what they should be studying to prepare for their future career. |
