Lecture to Bunkyo University Students by Minister Shinsuke Shimizu

On February 26, twenty-two students from the Bunkyo University visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to receive a lecture by Minister Shinsuke Shimizu.
As opening remarks, Minister gave a general overview of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the UN, the United Nations, and staffs working in the UN in relation to the role of the Japanese government. He explained the course of the UN history in four different time periods, along with the explanations on the Peacekeeping Operations and regional disputes. He then talked about the relationship between Japan and the UN in pre and post-Cold War periods along with the contribution of Japan to PKO and Official Development Assistance (ODA). The lecture was followed by a number of questions on the reform of the Security Council and diplomacy/lobbying process at the UN, which the Minister answered in detail with specific examples. . |
