Lecture to Ritsumeikan University Students by Ambassador Jun Yamazaki

     On February 19, twenty-nine students from Ritsumeikan University, located in Japan, visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to hear a lecture by Ambassador Jun Yamazaki.

 

     Ambassador Yamazaki explained the principal organs and their role in the United Nations. He also explained Japan’s position on a number of topics that are dealt with at the United Nations. He touched upon how the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are being achieved as well as the discussions on the post 2015 development agenda, Japan’s role in organizing the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai in March 2015 and the steps Japan is taking to address gender equality and empowerment of women. Lastly, he spoke on Security Council Reform.

 

     The students showed and great interest as they listened to Ambassador Yamazaki’s lecture, and actively participated in the Q&A session.
