13 August 2013

On August 13, twenty students from Kwansei Gakuin University located in Japan visited the Permanent Mission to receive a briefing by Ambassador Jun Yamazaki.

During the briefing, Ambassador Yamazaki explained how the principal organs of the United Nations are set up as well as the role of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations. Reflecting the students’ interests, he touched on how the United Nations is responding to the abduction issue, the United Nations’ efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as well as to formulate the post 2015 development agenda and how the United Nations as well as Japan is addressing the gender issue. Citing the process that led to the adoption of the General Assembly resolution on human security as one example, the Ambassador explained how negotiations take place at the United Nations.  Finally, he advised the students on what they should keep in mind when they apply to international organizations such as the United Nations.
