4 June 2013

On June 4, 21 students from the University of Wisconsin visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to receive a briefing by Ambassador Kazuyoshi Umemoto.

In his briefing, Ambassador Umemoto explained three major pillars that the United Nations focuses on, namely, peace and security, social and economic development and promotion and protection of human rights and humanitarian issues. He touched upon the importance as well as the limitations of multilateral and bilateral discussions at international organizations such as the United Nations.

The students showed attentiveness and great interest as they listened to Ambassador Umemoto’s briefing. In the Q&A session, students asked about global issues and Japan’s policies and its national strategy.
