June 3rd, 2017
On June 3rd, 2017 Haiku Contest Awards Ceremony was held at the United Nations International School (UNIS), hosted by the Northeast Council of Teachers of Japanese (NECTJ) together with the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations. The ceremony began with an opening remark by Ambassador Yasuhisa Kawamura from the Mission of Japan. Students who received first to third awards were recognized and given certificates. These students recited their haiku poems and each received comments and feedback from the judges. The awards ceremony was followed by a reception in which the participants, inspired by the Japanese culture, shared their joy in expressing themselves through Haiku poetry. The twelfth annual Haiku Contest which started in 2006 received in total 1100 haiku pieces. These poems were exhibited at UNIS for 8 days. |
