1. On Monday, November 12, an election of the members of the Human Rights Council was held at the General Assembly. Japan was elected as a member of the Council in the first round ballot. Japan will serve its third term as a member of the Council from January 1, 2013 for three years.
2. Japan has been contributing to the promotion and enhancement of international human rights norms, and the improvement of global human rights situations through international forums, bilateral dialogues, and economic cooperation. As a member of the Human Rights Council, Japan is committed to continuing to take on a productive role in the Council.
