Mission of Japan Sponsors Environmental Musical

2 November, 2005

On 2 November, the Classic Live for the U.N. group presented an environmental musical, "Our Forest Is Alive: Part III - Our Earth Charter", through the Youth Performing Arts Company of Tokyo at the UN Dag Hammarskjöld Auditorium. The musical weaved songs and dances from Japan and other countries between dialogue on the Earth Charter and current environmental issues. Three State University of New York (SUNY) Stonybrook students from Germany, Ethiopia, and Nigeria also performed in the musical as special guests.

The Classic Live for the U.N. has been promoting the arts and activities for young people since its establishment in 1991. The organization has performed at the United Nations every four years; this time was their fourth performance. Our Forest Is Alive: Part III - Our Environmental Charter commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations.

The musical was sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Japan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Environment, the United Nations Information Center, the Japan Center at Stony Brook, the Charles B. Wang Center, and Aeon Co. Ltd.
